WHAT IS A BOAT T-TOP SHADE EXTENSION?

A t-top shade extension is a device that’s designed to provide additional shade and sun protection to occupants of a boat that already has a t-top installed. T-top shade extensions are available in a variety of attachment styles, but most commonly you’ll see them either attached directly to the t-top’s frame or stretched between the t-top’s frame and two poles that fit into gunwale-mounted rod holders.

ISN’T MY T-TOP’S CANOPY ENOUGH?

While most t-top canopies do provide a significant amount of shade onboard center console boats, they typically are designed to create shade over the console and drive but not necessarily any other passengers on board. By adding a t-top shade extension, you’ll provide shade and UV-protection to much larger areas of the boat, shielding more occupants in the process.

WHAT ARE T-TOP SHADE EXTENSIONS MADE OF?

Construction varies between different varieties of t-top shade extensions. Most often, these extended canopies are made of a durable, UV-resistant fabric, making them easy to install and remove as needed and requiring minimal storage space. Some designs, however, may be made of more rigid material like plastic with supportive metal frames.

The shade material that’s right for your boat will depend largely on personal preference, budget, and desired application. No matter which shade you choose, make sure you invest in a t-top extension that will be long-lasting, stand up to wear and tear, and protect your passengers from harmful UV rays.
